The Art of Duodgi

Ancient Sami traditions meet contemporary design in every handcrafted bracelet, bridging centuries of heritage with modern craftsmanship.

About Me

Cecilia crafting a Sami bracelet

I was born and brought up in Sweden and worked passionately in the fashion industry. This led to my move to Paris where I lived for 5 years before coming to London where I currently live with my family.

Over the years, I have become accustomed to the colourful Sami crafts and modern takes on them. I became fascinated with their culture and was drawn especially to their jewellery. I enrolled on a course to learn how to make what I felt were unique, simplistic yet stunning and timeless pieces of jewellery.

I have always believed that a woman's wrist is one of the most uncelebrated parts of her body, not only elegant but always on display. These Sami bracelets can be worn to dress up and complete an outfit, or to dress down for a casual, bohemian look.

Whether one bracelet is worn on its own for simplicity or several stacked up, you can be assured both combinations will draw admirers.

Inspired by different seasons and current fashions, I create colourful and vibrant Sami bracelets with a modern twist as well as the traditional reindeer leather.

I am constantly creating new designs that feature both traditional braiding and modern interpretations, using pure silver beads and natural silk cord.

A Living Heritage

The Sami handicraft, known as Duodgi, originates from the time when the Sami were self-supporting travellers across the vast landscapes of Scandinavia. The Sami people are thought to be the indigenous people of Norway, Finland, Sweden and parts of Russia.

Traditionally, the Sami have pursued a variety of livelihoods, including coastal fishing, fur trapping and sheep herding. Their best-known means of livelihood is semi-nomadic reindeer herding, a practice that continues to define their cultural identity.

Currently about 10% of the Sami are connected to reindeer herding, providing them with meat, fur and transportation. For traditional reasons, reindeer herding is legally reserved for only Sami people in some regions of the Nordic countries.

Your Story to Tell

Following the Sami tradition of purpose over decoration, it would be up to you to decide what purpose your unique bracelet serves. It could represent a symbol of new beginnings, achievements, love and the celebration of friendship and life – it's entirely up to you and that is the beauty of it.

Each piece is unique and intricately sewn by hand with accuracy and precision, and can take up to a whole day to make depending on the style and nature of the embroidery or braiding.

Inspired by Nature

Inspired by the seasons of spring, summer and current fashions, I am creating colourful and vibrant Sami bracelets, with the modern twist of denim and fish skin as well as the traditional reindeer leather.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Ethically Sourced Leather

The bracelets are made from soft reindeer leather or top-grade lambskin. All reindeer leather is sourced ethically and comes directly from Sweden, ensuring the highest quality while respecting traditional Sami practices.

Handcrafted Wire & Thread

The nickel-free pewter wire is an alloy with 4-5% silver spun around a strong synthetic sinew thread, handmade in Cecilia's workshop in London. Each stitch is placed with precision and care.

Authentic Details

The button is made from reindeer antler in keeping with the Sami culture. On some designs, a pewter button is used when it works better with the overall design of the bracelet, ensuring both authenticity and aesthetic harmony.

The Perfect Gift

The Sami bracelet makes the perfect gift for someone who likes something unique and fashionable. Popular with both women and men, each piece carries with it centuries of tradition and the personal touch of true craftsmanship.
